Concrete Compression Testing Machine

Motorised, digital and computerised CTMs for concrete cubes and cylinders

Compression Testing Machines (CTM) · Concrete CTM

A concrete compression testing machine is the most important instrument in any RMC plant, precast yard or construction quality lab. It crushes 150 mm cubes or cylinders at the specified rate so engineers can confirm that the concrete meets its grade at 7 and 28 days.

We supply motorised and digital concrete CTMs from 1000 kN to 5000 kN, with accessories such as distance pieces, cylinder caps and flexural attachments, and we calibrate them on site so your results stand up to audits by clients and consultants.

Good practice for concrete cube testing

  • Test cubes in the surface-dry condition and centre them on the platen
  • Apply load without shock at the rate specified in IS 516
  • Calibrate the CTM at least once a year, or as required by your quality plan
  • Keep platens flat and clean and check the spherical seat moves freely

Frequently Asked Questions

Which CTM capacity is best for an RMC plant?

A 2000 kN motorised or digital CTM is the most common choice for 150 mm cubes up to M60. For higher grades or cylinders, 3000 kN is recommended.

What is the difference between motorised and hand operated CTM?

A motorised CTM uses an electric pump for a steady loading rate, which is better for repeatable results. A hand operated CTM is cheaper and needs no power, so it suits small site labs.

How often should a concrete CTM be calibrated?

Typically once a year, and after any major repair or relocation. See CTM machine calibration.
